Rell Sunn, ‘ Queen of Makaha’ and ‘Queen of Aloha’ February 09, 2014 22:14

This page is a tribute to the beautiful Rell Sunn, a former World Champion surfer from Makaha on the Island of Oahu, who finally lost her battle to breast cancer in 1998.

Sunn was renowned throughout Hawaii and many parts of the world for her skills as a lifeguard, diver, spear-fisher, and, most of all, as a top female surfer. At the heart of Rell Sunn were her spirited enthusiasm, her passion for life, and her extension of aloha to all she met.

Rell loved kids, and was the founder of the Menehune Surf Contest every year for kids

The Menehune Surf Contest still goes on today, and benefits the Rell Sunn Educational Fund !
